What is the purpose of mobility development planning?

Integrated mobility development planning is more than the sum of the individual specialist plans.

The interests of all modes of transport and a wide range of usage requirements should be taken into account as broadly as possible and in a way that is compatible with the urban environment, before being integrated into an existing or planned urban development context.

Models for the design of the future

Integrated solutions must be developed that take account of all modes of transport in various models and development objectives and evaluated on the basis of traffic models for a range of future scenarios. Long-term perspectives should be examined in full and short-term individual measures delivered promptly for implementation.

Interactions between the different modes of transport, such as cars, road and rail-based public transport, bicycle and pedestrian traffic, must be taken into account in this context.

Reconciling interests

Mobility development planning cannot take place away from the public sphere and therefore faces the challenge of presenting models and action plans in a transparent and comprehensible way and facilitating discussion that involves the public.
